About Me
What inspired you to pursue a career in your industry?
I ended up here by merging my career background (B2B marketing) with my side passion (environment/climate change).
I didn't know much about the world of corporate climate action until I started working with climate technology companies, but now that I'm here, what inspires me to continue working in this industry is the enormous environmental change we can create.
Our economy is the source of our climate problems, so it makes far more sense to be focused on corporate climate action rather than individual climate action.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
Reading about other people's careers and achievements is really helpful to me — it always gives me new ideas and motivation.
How do you handle setbacks or failures in business?
We try to be pretty optimistic most of the time, and sometimes bring in a 'no complaining' rule when we're in a tough phase, but we're also pretty good at acknowledging that ups and downs are reality for entrepreneurs.
We try to let ourselves feel it and and move through it at a natural pace.
All that really matters is that you keep going, however slowly.
What do you think makes a great leader?
I think one of the things you realise when you go into business is that you simply can't do everything yourself.
Some people seem to be more comfortable with delegation than others, but either way, the higher you climb, the more you need to focus on doing less.
I think the best leaders are not just comfortable with delegation, but actually embrace the idea of finding people who are better than they are at doing whatever needs to be done, and trusting them to run with it.
Who Not How is a fantastic book I recommend to all leaders.
How do you maintain a work-life balance while leading a company or team?
Letting go of perfectionism and embracing a certain degree of efficiency has helped.
When there's so much to get through, you have to make each thing good, but not so good you're spending all night on it.
You need to establish a level of quality/polish that you're happy with, work out how to get that done in the shortest timeframe possible, and then literally shut everything off and get offline for a decent amount of time before your next working session.
